I like the candytuft for texture and flowering habit.  Two negatives:

Candytuft is very inexpensive to buy established plants at HQ et al. Make
sure you do not have the annual variety

I also like Artemesia - silver mound.  It must be divided each spring to
maintain the globe shape, and only requires one light shearing each year.
