Amy, you didn't mention how wide your path would be, but how about
Stella D Oro daylillies.  They bloom throughout the summer, little
maintenance and do not get tall.  By the way I planted liriope last
spring and couldn't believe how fast it grew in a completely shady area
clay based soil.  Karen Zone5/6
