Susan, loved your lily combinations! Yes, I've done the tall
lilies behind the shorter or medium roses (as well as the reverse).
Just too lovely for words. You've given me some ideas - thanks.
Val in KY, thanks for the tip on The Lily Garden -- will send for
their catalog today.
After I'd grown Asiatics, Trumpets, and Orientals for several
years, my husband announced emphatically last summer that he wanted
only Orientals from now on, or more Regale lilies. I admit that they
seem to last longer both in bud and in bloom, and their scent is out of
this world. But I have some clumps of Asiatics, in pinks, cream with
pink, and pale yellows that are terrific. Trumpets or Aurelians don't
last
very well for me (I've read they do best in zone 7 & south) although
Moonlight -- yellow with green reverse -- has persisted despite abuse
for 5 years. And 3 bulbs of Citronella have produced in 5 years a
clump 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide, under a maple tree no less!
Great plants.
