I hear ya' Nancy!  I have a never-ending supply of bamboo stakes:-) 
Hadn't thought of making planters out of it...hmmm...

I must second Marge's thoughts on this plant - nothing
will stop its advance and spread! We used what I
believe is a railroad tie as a 'divider' - bamboo has
come through this 8" x 8" treated lumber! In a number
of places! It is absolutely relentless!
Does anyone have any information on preparing the
young shoots as salad or stir-fry addition?
After about 7 years as a bamboo 'owner' everyone in my
family has windchimes, planters, baskets, etc. made of
this stuff! And yet there's plenty more where it came
from!
