Not necessarily, Isabelle,
My climbing hydrangea had the best of environments.... wet weather
spring runs over the roots on one side of the tree. First three years I had
it, looked as though it was not ever going to grow... just set there. Some
take longer than others to bloom first time after transplanting. There are
cultivars out there that are in bloom when you purchase them. Look around a
bit. Another tip that was give to me when I purchased mine... give the vine
an exposure where it will be out of the afternoon sun.
