Hello Lillian,

Kolkwitzia amabilis is nearly indestructable.

I have one, 1995 from seed, and another 1997, a
slip from the 1995 plant.

Do not prune.  The beauty of the "Beauty Bush" is the
vase shape it attains.  Easy to grow, it has no enemy
insects.  They like full sun.  Prune out the dead branches
only, then step back and wait.
