I'm a hosta nut, too, Muddy -- my garden would not be what it is without
the 70 or so hostas planted all over. Particularly in the parkways (the
planted areas between sidewalk & street - some call them hellstrips in
hotter climates), the hostas are one of the few plants that can
successfully compete with the roots of the maples the city so
thoughtfully plants in every parkway (:-<). I also love hostas mingled
with ferns, daylilies, astilbes, trees & shrubs, in containers, and on
and on. There are hosta sites specifically for discussions of these
wonderful plants, which are truly a backbone here. But unlike some hosta
enthusiasts who cut the flowering stems off, I find the flowers
decorative as well -- just noticed that the hostas ringing our big old
cottonwood in back are blooming and look very pretty against that giant
dark trunk.
