Hosta's with age tend to not taste good to slugs. The only problems that I
have are in the spring and a occasional one in the summer. I use a product
called Deadline in the squirt bottle and the Dead line bullets that you
spread out through the garden. While no perennial planting is total slug free
unless you surround your whole yard with copper edging that repel slugs (very
expensive). Try to keep the soil surface free of things that slugs & snails
like to hide in and under slugs don't like light or warm conditions. As far as
invasive roots, they aren't like a cotton wood or some thing like it.
