I grow both Asiatic and oriental lilies in part shade in the St. Louis area.
They do quite well. The real advantage is that the blossoms don't fade out
in part shade, and seem to last longer.
Wish you knew the species of your Astilbe. A. x arendsii can take more sun,
and A. chinensis is more tolerant of dry soil.
In any case, I think part shade would be fine for both the Lily and the
Astilbe. The real compatibility problem is moisture. Good drainage is
essential for lilies and Astilbe's can't dry out or their thin leaves will
crinkle. It might work if you use different amendments for the planting hole
of each plant, addressing drainage for the Lily and moisture retention for
the Astilbe.
The combination sounds wonderful. Hope you can get this to work. --Janis
