I don't know about the habit of Phlomis, but if it doesn't work out, I can
suggest a great companion for scrambling geraniums. I have Geranium endressi
'Claridge Druce' planted around a Baptisia australis. Not only does the
geranium provide filler for the leggy base of the Baptisia, but the leaf
color sets off the blue-green Baptisia foliage nicely, and the textures
compliment each other. The Baptisia provides a nice structure for the
geranium's scramblings. As an added bonus the geranium flowers make the
Baptisia appear to "bloom" all summer! I have to cut back all of my other
Crane's-bills, but I let this one go all season. --Janis
