Last summer I spent much of each day hand weeding. We finally applied
Roundup to most of the area on the perimeter of the woods. Then we did some
rototilling at the end of the season. I have planted shrubs: hydrangeas,
viburnum, ilex in one area, hemlock, red twig dogwood, cotoneaster in
another, Crepe myrtle, peegee hydrangeas, barberry and juniper, St. Johns
wort in a third. I have just ordered over 100 plants hoping to BLOCK OUT
the weeds: geraniums, polygonatum, pulmonaria, hosta. I may have overdone
it but I don't want to use weed killer and my back can't take that much weeding.
