How about a clematis?

Choose one that flowers on new wood. That way, if it gets ratty, you can
prune it without affecting the flowering too much.

I like Ville de Leon and Etoille Violette. But there are far more varieties
that will grow in your zone.  Just remember to mulch the base of the plant
heavily.
