in bloom in oregon-since you asked!
well modisty prevents me from gloating too much but I have the start of
my first blush of roses, several species of iris, the tail end of the
daphne and lilac, peonies, bleeding heart, several different helleborus,
violas over wintered stock of all things, rhododendrons and azaleas of
course, gerbera daisies, my first ever johnnie jump ups from seed has
been successful and they have been set out all over-I love these sweet things!
In the NWNative garden the dicentra formosa, coltsfoot and ferns have
all grown out, red and pink currant are fading and the trillium is gone already.
Some of my oriental poppies are about to bloom and may have-I havn't
been outside yet.
On the other hand, being Portland, it's been pouring rain and all the
peonies got beat to death. I went out and staked some in the rain and
cut the badly damaged ones to bring in, but I doubt that the buds that
are on the plant will bloom as they are pretty soggy. The wet weather
has given me black spot and rust on roses that haven't had it before. I
garden organically and so I've been denuding these roses of leaves and
even cut some of them back again. This isn't the first time for this
stuff-and it really gets to me as I am really good about cleaning up
leaves and even replacing mulch in the winter so I dont overwinter
spores of black spot-I wonder how far these spores can travel?
I am in the process of creating a new 'garden room' that will have a
'folly' with a swing seating area so I have been planting Rhodies around
the future building area and underplanting with fall blooming bulbs as I
do. The leading to this area is a pathway bordered by the 7 lilacs
that I just got at the Hulda Klager Lilac garden-I'm planting low
azaleas between the lilacs and on the east side of the path will be my
husbands collection of grasses-he's a hosta and grasses guy.

Around them will be the Heirloom roses, with the cl iceburg on the
folly, along with clematis, wisteria, virginia creeper and anything else
I can think of!
This is a wonderfully sunny spot and after years of shade gardening I'm
glad I have a plan to plant in the sun.
The view from the swing is my new terraced sun garden, just planted this
year (with a plan actually wow)-lots more roses, some shrubbery and as
soon as I get the garage painted, some climbing roses.
The view will also be of the --I hope--massive planting of Jude the
Obscure. HOGR has 25 of them planted out and they are to die for. For
the past 3 years I've missed buying this rose from them, but I have 2
now and am calling them every other week to see if ther are more. I
want at least 15 to have a spectacular display.
I have been painting the house which was white w/ green trim, a
buttercream yellow with daffodil yellow trim and lilac doors!
I'm working on a website!
Good thing I'm retired now!
