Re: Nicotiana

I've had it overwinter for me when winters are mild - see them
starting to come back now. Seeds around madly but seeds don't
germinate until the weather warms up. Last year, it simply covered a
huge area and I was ripping it out by the bucket load. If we have a
bitter winter, that's all she wrote for it and for I have to start
over....even the seeds don't germinate.

Becomes huge - leaves up to 18" long - in deep, organic soil. Where
mine are is an area covered with a foot or so of rotted woodchips;
they love that.

Do not find the fragrance overwhelming. In fact, hardly noticeable,
but have very few cool, damp summer evenings around here when they
are blooming.

Dean is right, they are aphid magnets.

Oddly enough, have not had great success trying to transplant the
seedlings. Can lift them with bare hands in that soft stuff, so there
is very little root damage, but trying to put them in another type of
soil (read more clay) and they never amount to a tinker's damn.
