Janet, Sounds like you just need to postpone putting your house on the
market and stall the neighbor for 8 or 9 months and the problem will rectify
itself.

The lawn man was just here. I asked him to please talk with the
neighbors, ask what they want done, get it in writing, and we'll pay for
it. He shook his head in disbelief and said, "It will cost you a fortune
to dig out and replant, and he still won't be satisfied because shrubs
won't be tall enough. He'll have to wait for them to grow. Don't get me
wrong, I'd love to have a $5,000 job, but they'd be taking advantage of
you. These privets will grow back in eight or nine months"
