This whole discussion came to mind yesterday when I watched a rerun of
Gardener's Diary on HGTV, where Carl Schoeneburg and John Fairey were
interviewed. They are plant hunters (and owner's of Yucca-Do Nursery in TX)
who specialize in introductions from Mexico.
John Fairey made the observation that although they are required to remove
every bit of soil from the plants they bring in, they cross the borders at
a point where car after car crosses with mud and manure and who knows what
else caked in the tires and on the vehicle body. Go figure!
