peonies

While we are on the subject of peonies, I have a question. Last fall I
planted nine peonies, light pink and the deep pink (I don't know the
variety). A friend had five HUGE plants that she wanted moved, so we
dug them up and split them. Out of the nine that I have, eight lived
and four have buds, not quite open yet. Some of the plants that don't
have mature buds look like they had buds but for some reason they never
matured. Just wondering if anyone knows why that happened. I am
assuming that it is just because I just planted them last fall and they
need time to grow a little. I was really surprised that I have any
buds, I thought it took a couple years for them to bud...so I'm not
complaining!
