Hi,
I started gardening because I wanted bachelor buttons like my Great
Grandmother had. Didn't know all those years ago when I started that
she probably only planted them once and they self seeded forever like
mine do. I remember having a conversation with her about what bachelors
were (men who were not married) and why would they want to use flowers
as buttons. Would it get a girls attention so he could marry her and
not be alone anymore. She told me that men did not wear them as
buttons, but might wear them on their lapels. (Then she had to tell me
what lapels were). I must have been about 6 or 7. And I am sure I had
a bunch more questions for her.
So now when ever my bachelor buttons bloom I think of Great Grandma.
And I miss her.
