When I was young (several days ago!) my grandmother's yard was always
filled with flowers. Probably about 20 years ago, she sold her house
and moved into a retirement community. My mother took some starts of a
sedum from Grandma's yard. I don't know the variety, it's a tiny thing,
maybe 2 inches tall, with scalloped looking leaves no bigger around than
a pea, and is absolutely covered in spring with yellow flowers. In the
past couple of years, my mother sold her home, and my grandmother died.
Before Mom moved, I got some pieces of that sedum, and it's growing in
my yard now. I sort of feel like the keeper of the family heirloom, and
hope I can keep it going until my daughter has a home of her own.
