Here is a short list of annuals or plants that behave as annuals for me that is require no work on my part and bloom each year by the process of self seeding.
I would like to add Alyssum 'Easter Basket'. This is its third season for me and it is still going strong. It is on a bank facing south and open to the winter winds. During the summer it gets no special attention (water, mulch, fertilizer), is in unamended, but relatively good soil, and partial sun. It doesn't start blooming till September and despite several nights below freezing, is still looking great. I love this plant for the carpet of blooms it produces. It has not been a rampant spreader, darn. Maybe in better conditions it would spread more.
