Re: Putting hostas to bed for winter


The trick to over wintering the smaller Hosta plugs is to plant them a little
over 1/2" deep and mulch well.  I go through hundreds of plugs a year and I do
not lose plants-even the difficult ones like 'Great Expectations'
Planting depth is the important factor here--too deep is better than too
shallow. 
Hosta will grow and adjust there depth in a year-but if the young plants have
their 'eyes' exposed to the elements they suffer.
