Last fall I dug up my giant clump of day lilies and just about decided to
toss them..I had no place in my 'new' garden for it at the time.
They sat in my gravel driveway all winter and this spring, when they were
greening up and trying to root in the driveway I took pity on them and
dumped them unceremoniously into a corner, where they bloomed
spectacularly.
BTW I chopped them into chunks to go around this corner and they didn't
pout at all.
I would guess that your daylilly would keep well if you put it in a trash
bag with soil and kept the soil moist.
I have been giving them away all summer right out of the garden (to
anyone who will take some) They seem pretty strong!
