RE: Iris question/other stuff

Hi....first, my iris question. I have never grown irises, but always
remembered them from my grandmother's yard so I decided to give them a try
this year. I ordered reblooming iris from Friendship Gardens in PA and put
them in/on the ground according to the instructions. Well, one of them
turned to mush and another one the leaves at the base of the rhizome got
mushy and fell over although that one is sending up new shoots from farther
along the edge of the rhizome. Why did this happen? I have tried to not
overwater and they were put in prepared beds getting our afternoon southern
sun.

About planting bulbs, here in North Carolina October-November is considered
the prime time for planting daffodils, tulips, etc. August is our time for
planting snowdrops. I got my bulbs from The Daffodil Mart and they ship
them to you when it is the time to plant in your part of the country. I am
in zone 7, on the edge of 8...considered the Lower South in the Southern
Living Garden Book.

What is blooming now in my garden....aster frikartii 'monch', echinacea
'magnus' and 'white swan', verbena 'homestead', sedum 'autum joy', white
woodland aster, double japanese aster, veronica 'goodness grows', coreopsis
'moonbeam' and 'golden showers', and russian sage, solidago 'fireworks'.
