I feel compelled to mention that most of these plants (as the average
gardener knows them) are introduced species from Europe that have
become naturalized here.
'Twould be better to think of goldenrod, asters, liatris, and other
prairie forbs (and grasses).

But those species *are* weeds (and so is grass)... :)
