Nasty little critters, whiteflies. I have only encountered them inside or
rare occasions when I've brought some annual inside, thinking I'd keep it
growing and it's been too warm and dry for it. Truly hard to get rid of.
Here's a page with good data about them - know thy enemy! Also note the
bit about insecticides fostering insecticide proof whiteflies - horrors!

whitefly
(this is a long URL, so if it appears on two lines in your email program,
you'll need to copy and paste instead of trying to simply click on it.)
There are also a couple of parasitic wasps, Encarsia formosa and
Eretmocerus eremicus who will go after white flies in greenhouse situations
- fairly readily available, I believe, from suppliers of beneficial
insects.
Here's Cornell's page about Encarsia formosa
http://www.nysaes.cornell.edu/ent/biocontrol/parasitoids/eformosa.html
and Eretmocerus eremicus...
http://www.nysaes.cornell.edu/ent/biocontrol/parasitoids/eretmocerus.html
And, I see from a page from one supplier of beneficials -
http://www.biconet.com/biocontrol.html -
that there's also a beetle who eats whiteflies in all stages...Delphastus
pusillus
If you go the beneficial insect route, you can't spray, as beneficials are
more susceptible to insecticidal sprays than the pests are.
