Hi Everyone,
You may recall my past postings to the group regarding vine direction, then
again you may not!
From my multiple practice starts and based on the test plants which I have
had in the ground for 7 weeks now, it would be accurate to say the (First
Main Vine) will grow in the (General)
opposite direction of the first true leaf. Plus or minus say 15 degrees.
Sometimes directly opposite of the first true leaf.
A second main vine may grow in any direction!
You may also determine which way the first true leaf will open and which
way the main vine will grow based on the two holes in the bottom of the
seed, but I will not re-hash this method at this time!
I have discussed the concept of the first main vine growing in the opposite
direction of the first true leaf with Rick Dickow, who has grown Giant
Pumpkins on the West Coast for 8 years, in addition Pete Glasier who has
grown Giants for some 14 yrs, both have confirmed this to be the case and
practice this method!
Hope this helps!
