Barb,
Sometimes you can cut the flat vine off provided you have a better
alternative vine on the plant and everything goes on normal........the
effect seems to snowball and get worse in some cases and get wider and
wider.....thought I had a winner once when a flat vine sent out a siamese
twin pumpkin....can't tell you the out come of the twin as a fire burnt the
plant.......if the flat vine keeps getting wider then it probably will snow
ball into not much.......but if its a mild case you still can get a
pumpkin......like two to three vine widths..........just another one of
those killer decisions to make.................... good luck brock
