Re: How to prune???

The leaves dying off near the stump is normal. When they get brittle or if they fall over and lay on the ground, carefully cut them off flush with the vine and remove them from the patch. Shade the stump from the sun with something like shade cloth and allow a good airflow around it.

The second part of the question will hopefully be answered by someone else out there ..... ( maybe after the come in from the patch ).

I now have my final pumpkin set and it is at 41" circumference and growing like mad! I have a lot of leaves dieing off close to the stem. Is that normal? The vines are still growing fast and the pumpkin also. I have 5 vines besides the one my pumpkin is on and am curious if I should let them continue or prune them off. They are all 16 to 20 feet long. If I should cut them, how far from the stem should I cut and is there a correct way and wrong way to do it?? Please help!

Thanks,
