I found Captan powder today (I had to check around - apparently it's not
stocked at a lot of joints).  It is a 50% concentration.  I made a thick
paste and plastered the area with it.  I didn't paint it on with a brush
like I should have.  It looked like it started to dry up right away and
there is sort of a wad of dough on top of my pumpkin.  Did I put too
much on there?  How will I know if it worked?

Although the paste is very effective it is a dangerous mix.  You are using it
at a full strength and it is meant to be used at 1 - 4 Tablespoons per gallon
of water.

Avoid all skin contact.  Eye contact can cause severe injury.  Having any on
the Pumpkin at weigh off can disqualify you because of the danger to the
people handling the Pumpkin.

Safer Alternatives

Powdered Sulfur

A Fungicide Dust made to be used full strength. (Used successfully on the
Stem Split shown on the Pumpkin in Don's HTGWCGP Book) That Pumpkin lasted
until mid November.

Use a  4 Tablespoon per gallon mix of Captan
