Hello Adam!
You might want to try Big Max or Prizewinner pumpkins. I know that Tim
Assiter in Texas grows Prizewinners. Atlantic Giants were developed in
Nova Scotia, and they seem to do best in the northern latitudes (or in
their southern hemisphere counterparts).
Not only that, if you want ORANGE pumpkins, Prizewinners and Big Maxes
will get you there. If you want truly beautiful pumpkins, look for
Cinderella's Coaches (they can also grow to basketball size-plus). AGs
are not so consistent, yielding pinks, greens, grays, creams, whites and
beiges.
Word of caution: P&P Seeds has a bad reputation among many of the AG
growers. You might want to look for pumpkins from anyone but them.
If you want to try AGs in Florida, you need to start really early. You
can get seeds free from growers on this list (I'd go for growers from
approx. your area). If you want to buy AG seeds, go directly to Howard
Dill, the AG developer, who has a reputation for absolute honesty.
Good luck! I look forward to reading of your progress on the list.
Kathie
