Re: question to the group

Pumpkin Flower:

I have 6 AG pumpkin plants remaining in my Florida garden that were germinated
3/4 and set out 3/11. Each plant is about 2500 sq. ft and is still growing
steadily. Lots of new growth, blooms, and the stumps appear to be growing a
thin layer of bark. The stumps look looks like fat, twisted, gnarly grape
canes. The heat aborts the fruits that set, but nonetheless, the plants are no
worse for the wear.

I think that my vines would probably continue to grow until killed by outside
influences, such as frost, vermin, bacteria or fungus. Should leave one in
just to see. Afraid of what might develop in the next two months!

As far as determinance, I would think that I would be seeing signs, and I'm
not. The plants are growing and blooming like Jack's proverbial beanstalk. I
think they are trying desperately to set and grow a fruit to further the
species before they expire. According to my calculations, they'll have to grow
until November or December before the weather gets cool enough to allow fruit
set. Can only imagine what they'd look like by then!
