I just wanted to report a temporary victory in the squirrel wars... I tried
and failed with peanut decoys, vine and pumpkin prophylactics, urine
marking, pepper spray, and aggressive misting, but the 6 ft tall fence made
of bird netting (curved out at top and bottom) seems to have worked. No
rodents in the patch for 5 days.
I also cut down branches that made the redwood near the patch a convenient
squirrel highway/home, and used a liberal quantity of anti-squirrel
projectiles.
I find that old fruit makes a satisfying thud, even when I miss them.
