This is just a reminder to fellow growers about the Great Lakes/St.Lawrence Giant Pumpkin Growers Seminar to be held Sat/Sunday Mar 25th and 26th, 2000 at the University of Guelph, Guelph, Ontario Canada. The largest gathering of Giant Growers under one roof. Last year's attendance was 225.
Saturday is the gathering together afternoon and evening with networking and an informal banquet at the College Inn. We will also have a session on Judging Standards and Running a Successful Weigh-off Event at 4:00 PM
The morning program will feature a seed bazaar of the finest seeds collected by the Ottawa/St. Lawrence Growers. Larry and Gerry Checkon will tell us how they grew the New World Record Pumpkin.Two Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Food Specialists will talk about Soils,Fertilizers,and Irrigation Techniques followed by a panel discussion.
Lunch will be followed by three optional choices.One for New Growers(Glenn Cheam and Bruce Kaye). One for Other Giant Vegetables(Norm Craven,Jason Karl and Art Franek) and one for Importance of Seed Genetics(Mike Nepreney and Al Eaton)
Len Stellpflug and Norm Craven will identify our major enemies in a session on Insects and Disease Control.
Ten or more 1000 pound plus growers will then make up a panel for our Dream Team Session.
Our local organization will then present the coveted awards for the 1999 growing year: The Orange Cup and the Orange "Masters" Jacket to Todd Kline from Shawville, Quebec. The immediate runners up will also receive cash awards.
A seed auction will follow and the lobby will have various other support displays which will interest everyone throughout the day.
