RE: Oregon Update
Hi Brett,
I've made my choices as to what I will start for seeds already. I plan on
growing 4 plants instead of 3 this year and hoping for green from one of
them. I don't have any more space than in the past, but I've made the
decision to limit the size of the plants. I've found all of my best
pumpkins are coming from the smaller plants and not the ones I allow to have
more leaf and vine space. I figure this will allow me to finally try for a
squash as well. The first team choices are:
723 Bobier 99 (Two offspring over 1000 in first season planted.)
835 McIntyre 98 (I know I can do better with this one, pretty, orange &
round.)
871 Richart 97 (Jake made a believer out of me with his.)
862.5 Hester 99* (Hoping for a big green one, and if not green at least
big!)
Backups I'm starting at the same time. (I learned my lesson last year.)
576 Michalec 00 (I have to start at least one of my own.)
720.5 Welty 99 (This should be good for a green one.)
940 Mombert 98 (Geneva had that way heavy beauty from this one last year.)
I'm waiting on the results of my soil test and looking at some products that
may help me get to the next level in this hobby. The cover crop is growing
and I've been adding lime and gypsum throughout the winter along with the
poop to build up the organic matter in my soil. With the mild winter we're
having in Washington it's been easy to do. I'll be seeing you and the
missus in Wilsonville in March.
