Re: Manure Ad...???


Tim,

I added this same mix to my vegetable garden a few years back and the wood
shavings did take a couple of years to break down.
I also found the horse manure contained a lot of weed seed as I had a large
quantity of weeds in my garden the following spring. 
A master composter I spoke with suggests staying away from horse manure &
shaving mixes that contain more shavings than manure as is often the case
with these mixes. She suggests that the shavings will have a tendency to
deplete nitrogen levels in the soil as they break down and you may wind up
in a nitrogen deficient situation.
