Dave, 150 feet of vine got my interest. How did you arrive at that figure? How big a pumpkin is it expected to produce?

Hi Steve! Glad things are going well for you this year and that you have 4 of mine going...my 859 Bhaskaran is my worst plant this year...but it seems to have the bad luck streak on it. Got dug up to start the year, MV snapped off, etc. Anyways, glad to hear my plants genetics are doing well for you...hopefully pays off in Oct! I will be back in the early fall. I have elatives in Rochester and St. Charles. I'll keep you posted on your vines ere in Indiana. I like the stem to be parallel to the ground and not kinked due to tress. That is a goal...doesn't always happen. ood luck avid Bhaskaran ochester, MN. ----Original Message----- rom: Debbie Runkle <yorunk13@att.net> o: pumpkins@hort.net ent: Fri, Jun 25, 2010 6:44 am ubject: Re: pruning o you terminate the secondaries at some point? ebbie _______________________________ om: George & Carolyn Heyne <gheyne@millcomm.com> : pumpkins@hort.net nt: Fri, June 25, 2010 12:03:14 AM bject: Re: pruning ebbie, keep most of my secondaries. As the pumpkin grows, I usually have to emove me secondaries on both sides of the vine to remove some of the stress on he in vine and the stem of the pumpkin. I would NOT use a verse Christmas tree. You want your secondaries to be behind the pumpkin nd ose to the stump. I use small scissors to cut the tertiary vines. If I bury e vines at the same time, the area where the tertiary was cut is usually vered with soil. The pruning starts as soon as the tertiaries start growing ich is now. The cut is fairly close to the vine. Also, do you use garden shears to prune? Do you cover the cut with soil? en do you start pruning? How close to the main (or secondary) do you cut?
