Re: pruning

Marco,
Good question. My biggest is 1355 lbs and it was done in about 150 ft of
secondary vines...other growers I know who have gotten them much bigger...talk
about # of secondaries and how long(so I just do the math)...Ideally if you
can get more "salad" by early July the better....I like to get them
pollinated early in MN..as we've had a year (2004?) where it froze in my patch
on Aug 21st(patch dropped to ground 28 degrees, and I got caught off
guard)...so to max the avg night temp (key in MN for pumpkin growth)....June
21st - Sept 1st...so want to get them rolling early if possible! Ideally for
me...about 12-16ft pumpkin set and max the length of the secondaries...fill
all open areas. (secondaries before the pumpkin...I'm not concerned much with
them after the pumpkin...but still let them grow a bit.

Not sure if I've helped. ;-)

Dave, 150 feet of vine got my interest. How did you arrive at that figure? How
big a pumpkin is it expected to produce?
