Dean,
A light spray of sevin @ one tablespoon per gallon will not hurt a young
plant. It is not necessary to soak the plant, just a quick fine spray over the
plant. Gophers are bad news....they will eat the pumpkins and the plant. You
should have a fence up to keep them out...that way you won't have to plug
them.
