My misting system (actually a fogging system) uses 600 pounds pressure
and has a filter in the base of each nozzle. This filter is about 1/8
thick and 3/8 diameter. There is also a paper filter somewhat like an
oil filter prior to the pump. Pond water would also require some kind of
filter(s) prior to that polishing filter. My system is for clean
drinking water.
I got this system at an auction. I need something like this for
rooting the stage III microcuttings in the greenhouse. Some poinsetta
growers use these systems, but some simple misters of very low volume
are now available for use at normal city water pressures.
For those who have not seen 600 lb systems in use (soldered copper
pipe is used), The mist is on for a few seconds and one can see a layer
of fog about 12 inches thick which slowly settles. It takes nearly a
minute to fall 6 feet.
In greenhouses, we like the nozzles to point down. Else water collects
on the pipes and drips and that washes out several plants and you lose
those sales. Systems like mine probably do not put out enough water for
for outdoor use.
