RE: 2000 Provincial Seminar
This was a great meeting! Gerry Checkon gave a great talk about the
experience of growing Moonie, with lots of their growing details. Her
enthusiasm was really infectious. Other excellent talks on soil, backyard
growing (Kaye & Cheam), diseases & pests, etc. The seed bazaar was great
(especially if you got there early). There was also a seed raffle and a
seed auction. Great opportunity to network with many of the worlds top
growers. What a great sense of community! It was funny how little we all
talked about anything except giant pumpkin growing -- I mean after meeting a
bunch of folks I'd realize that I had no idea what they did in their
"professional" lives outside of pumpkin growing. The question of what else
we did besides that was sort of neglected.
This is a meeting I would encourage anyone with a strong interest in giant
pumpkin growing to attend!
My appreciation to Bruce, the OSLGA and the Port Elgin Pumpkinfest for a
great event! I wish that I could be there to see the crowd of 50,000+ at
the Pumpkinfest this October!

Great day at the 2000 Provincial Seminar at Guelph University yesterday. It
must have been the largest gathering of 1000+lbs growers. Canadian Champion
Todd Kline 1036.5, Al Eaton 1009.5, Bill Greer 1006, Gary Burke 1092, Steve
Hoult 1010, Len Stellpglug 1056.5, Larry Checkon 1191, Gerry Checkon 1131
World Champion and World Record Holder, were all in attendance and were
available for questions. Thanks to all who came.
Pictures will be available in the next Ottawa St Lawrence newspaper mailed
at the end of this week. Note to all members, their seed distribution
packages will be mailed with the newsletter.
