Re: Its the pits

The way i use to grow my 300lber's with hardware store seed was to get an
empty plastic oil drum (about 24-30" across) and cut it in half. Then cut
the bottom off. This was placed on the soil and filled with neat compost
from the shop. The plants were then put in the top and given a soaking once
a week when it got hot, or an extra can if it was drying too much. A little
miracle gorw was used mid season, the ground below was manured the previous
winter. When we moved here i started to use hills of plain all good soil
mixed with a bag of compost. The hills were about 3' high and 5' across.
The plants were given the same care as the ones had been in drums (grown
from own saved seed this time). Similar weights produced.

Of course, i do things all different to that now, but that's how i started
as a kid, i can now see how these practices could have limited my success.
