genetic ramblings
As usual AG are more perplexing than ever. Seems like the more you learn
the less you really know.
I like to step back and take a good look at what the hek are we seeing?
Are we seeing how environment is controlling the genetic expression? Hek
look what good weather/ grower has done for New Hampshire and the PNW 1000
pounders all over. Growers lining up the monsters in their patch. A lot of
myths may have been disproven?
If the expression of the genetics is linked to the environment. HOW,( from
near the beginning) say the 575 dill 88, do we know What the FULL genetic
genotype potential was?
Was it being expressed back then?? Its seems that the grower had to evolve
in his techniques and climate had to be there for that potential to unfold
over the years.
Whats wild is that the current world record comes from genetics from 92,93
what is that telling us?
I would like to think that the fruit are evolving and we are cleaning up the
undesired traits. It sure seems that way But now you have this monster
pumpkin that held up.
Because the Atlantic giant is so phenomenal it almost becomes mystical with
magical qualities. But in reality it is a variety in pepo max as is Early
girl is a variety of tomato. Its easier to explain using an early girl. If
we are inbreeding within a variety how much variance can there be? How much
deviation from the original genetic genotype (potential) can there be??
