I totally agree with this theory; are you saying the 1062 is a 914 X 914 ? That's exactly what
I said in my last post to Mike, you young guy's are the future & should continue on doing these
these things with plans 2 to 3 years in advance. Oh how I wish I was young again. Bill

In some cases you are right and in other cases the greatness keeps going even if you continue selfing or sibbing. One advantage with selfing is that isolating positive traits might be easier and faster. Also a great way to preserve genes of those hard to get seeds.
I don't kow if Joe Ailts is still on this list, but he might like to jump in one this one. He presented some time ago a pretty good paper discussing hybrid vigor, isolating genes, etc.
PS...the 1062 is selfed (purposely) ... part of a 2-3 year plan. We shall see.

Looking at your list of examples, it seems that a outcross is required re second generation
to get to the big one in most cases. Selfed not that great, next generation with outcross real
good, following generation throwing real well. Correct me if I'm wrong. See I said we will all learn
from this discussion.

- Maybe the selfing will increase the color, shape ect. but I really
- believe it hurts size & is this not what we are hunting for in this sport. How many
- selfed has grown big ones.?????
There are many examples out there that prove that selfing has and does work (size, shape AND color). Here are a few examples that prove it. This info was taken from the AGGC database and contains only 900+ fruit that grew from a selfed seed.
