Hi Randall....sure is alot of fun growing these things isn't it ! Congratz
on a successfull first year.
When i give out free seeds I send out between 2 and 5 of each fruit I
ended up with. I love doing it....it was done for me and I thank all those
who gave me seeds. It costs a 55 cent stamp U.S. for one seed or for 10 so it
doesn't matter .Howard Dill has some great seeds at fair prices....3 seeds
for 6 bucks,3 premium seeds for 7 bucks, and some even less. This is NOT the
situation that sparked the fury on the list, and that isn't the purpose of
this email.
The purpose of this email is to suggest that you germinate and plant a
VARIETY of seeds...preferably from different genetic lines. If you start 5 of
one pumpkin's seeds and the pumpkin's seeds arent viable you've lost a weeks
time plus the time it takes to get more.If the seed just doesn't grow well
and all 5 have that characteristic then your done for,or stuck growing a
difficult or wimpy plant all year. By arranging (buy/sell/trade) for a few
different seeds you can start a couple of each, cull out the
non-germinators,cull out the wimpy seedlings or those that appear to be
stunted-have problems etc.......and plant two in your small patch at opposite
ends. Then you can chose between those two when they meet in the
middle.Options is the key.Numerous seed sources is important.Keep up the good
work,the enthusiasm,and above all have fun.......g
