Re: cool night

Debbie, Leave little pieces of tape or magic marker a few spots on the pumpkin
where you measure it. This will help guide you to line up the tape in the same
spots. If your measurements get smaller, the pumpkin is rotting from the
inside. "If it isn't growing, it's going"

The curtains should help keep the dampness out. Be sure the sun hits it in the
day to dry any moisture off. You can use a fan, also.

So putting up the curtains at night will not cause a problem with dampness?
e'll be measuring tonight and will see if it is growing. Like I wrote, I
think
some changes in measurements could be human error, esp. if it is 0.5 inch.
The
ast couple of times that we measured, the measurement may be 0.5 inches
maller. Is there a secret to keeping consistent locations for the tape? I
now as other list member have mentioned, OTT is just a guide, but being an
engineer'... well that should explain it.

Yes, keep it as dry as possible, wether it is growing or not. A diluted
bleach
ash can help keep bacteria from attacking it from the outside, if you know it
ill dry afterwards. If you think it might be growing, keep he blanket on at
ight. Good Luck!

lan, should I still keep the tarp and curtains on it with out a blanket at
ght if it stopped growing? It is very damp here and didn't know if the
mpness would cause a problem. I am having a hard time determining if it is
ill growing since it might be a pound a day and that could be human error.

bject: cool night
have noticed that there seems to be two different schools of thought
garding
ether to keep your pumpkin warm at night or not. One post I read said it is
ter to keep it cool at night (not cover unless frost) since it will help
serve it, much like a refrigerator. The other is to keep it warm. What is
 thoughts from the list?
ave tarps over the pumpkins, supported by poles, and I cover them with
nkets at night and wrap a curtain of tarps around the whole thing. I also
the curtains if it rains to keep it all dry. So far there has been minimal
sture on the blankets in the mornings. If I don't use the curtains, the
nkets will be quite wet in the mornings. I don't know what them temps get
n to in the enclosure. I have 2 weeks to the weigh-off and want to keep it
lthy, although I think it has stopped growing.
