A Pumpkin Wish

 Start light star bright
First star I see tonight
 I wish I may I wish I might
Get the wish I wish tonight

IF there's a star up in the sky
That shines for pumpkins from on high
 This wish I send to up above
Please send a ray of luck and love
To all who wait with fingers crossed
And hopes of their old records tossed
That these few days of torture end
No crack or split please do not send
If growth must slow or even stop
Please send no frost to rest a top
Just get this fruit all whole and sound
Harvested from the well cared ground

And keep those mice and gophers out
From underneath that make us shout
No molds or moose to get to us
As these few days are lived out thus
With anxious measures checked again
And lots of lifters called for when
Yet just enough so they don't drop
The pumpkin as it reaches top
Get lifted safely to the truck
And transported with gentle luck

 For all these things I wish I might
Oh pumpkin star there shining bright
Please grant this wish I wish tonight
Eyes shut and fingers crossed so tight
