Peat Bales

When one buys a peat bale and if one wishes to wet the peat before using
it does anyone have any clever suggestions? I've tried sticking a hose
through the bale and dribbling water in but that's not too successful.
Someone on another list suggested taking chunks, putting them in large
container and covering with water.
Any other suggestions? Thanks
