I have started Hemerocallis from seed several times. I use a method simular
to what you described; sow them in plugs or trays in winter, leave them
outdoor till spring, and then bring them inside my greenhouse to germinate.
They germinates well, and the plants are potted within a few months.
However, Hemerocallis doesn't come true from seeds. I usually divide the plants.
