Re: Question about Chaenomeles

More about quinces vs. flowering quinces:

I recalled that Diane Heilenman, author of GARDENING IN THE LOWER MIDWEST,
was somewhat of a quince fan, so I peeked inside that book. I thought some
of you might possibly be interested in this quote from p. 84: "Cydonia
(quince): This is not the spring-flowering Japanese flowering quince, but
the quince tree, a fine but underused ornamental.... The tree is small,
it blooms as pretty as any apple, bears large golden, astringent fruits
tasty in pies, holds its superb mahogany fall color well into winter, has
no pests that I know of, and is easily hardy to minus twenty degrees."

I think that definitely settles it. Now it's just a matter of figuring out
where to buy one.
