Re: Clematis in Shade?

Hi Barbara,
I have three Jackmanni all growing in the shade of some large white pines,
on a fence on a north slope, underneath/behind some river birches. Plenty
of shade. In addition, they are on a fence and get occasionally
weedwhacked by the yard "crew" (you get what you pay for)--anyway, in spite
of all that, they bloom every year but lighter than they might
otherwise. I cut them down to about 14" each fall. My only regret is
that in such a dark environment that I chose such a dark color. If a
lighter pink or lavender would bloom as well in the shade, it would be
better. Good Luck!
